Nella Bilingual Sounds Session with Byron Gonzalez
Discussing the new album En Otra Vida
Recorded in The SoCal Sound Studios, performing 3 songs + Interview
Venezuelan singer-songwriter Nella joined Byron Gonzalez in the studios for a Bilingual Sounds Session, presented by The SoCal Sound, to discuss and perform songs from her new album, released last spring, En Otra Vida.
En Otra Vida is a collection of timeless classics, reinterpreted to bring Nella’s voice to the songs, while honoring the women who composed them.
Nella explains how the inspirational the women composers were, to not only for reigniting her passion for music and performing, but how it was so inspirational during her formative years as a young girl growing up in Venezuela: “It wasn't that I was doubting, "Oh, do I want to sing?" It was more, "Well, do I want this career?" We know how difficult it is. So there was a moment where I was questioning myself, and I thought, "Maybe I just need to go back." Go back to the feeling I had whenever I would come home after school and, instead of playing Nintendo or watching TV, I would just sing and sing all day. Or I’d dance in the mirror to Britney. I just loved it—that was my fun, the thing that I would do. That helped me reconnect with those songs, specifically from the Latin American repertoire, and also songs written only by women. That was a beautiful discovery. I didn’t know that Veinte Años or Bésame Mucho were written by María Teresa Vera, and I thought, "Wow, this is very interesting." Then there were songs by Gloria Estefan and Olas y Arenas by Sylvia Rexach. Veinte Años made it onto the album because it was part of my life, and it reminded me why I started doing this. That’s why these songs are in this album.”
Nella performed 3 songs; “Veinte Años”, “Olas y Arenas”, “Te Espero Sentada”, & “Me Llaman Nella”
